MEDITECH EHR Software and Google Health have announced to collaborate to advance clinical research and discovery in Expanse EHR software. The aim is to help providers by improving the access to information from various sources to offer quick and accurate care to patients. The Google Health solution with integrated Meditech will provide longitudinal health records which will enable care teams to have quicker access to data.

The collective solutions will allow Google Health’s search and summarization features in the Expanse EHR platform to find information faster which will ultimately benefit the patient as treatment can be provided without any delay.

How will this collaboration help healthcare teams?

To offer high-quality patient care, clinicians need to have easy and complete access to patient information including medical history, data related to allergies and drug interaction, etc. Even if the healthcare provider is using the integrated Expanse electronic health records software some of the information will still be outside sources and systems. So the problem will still remain. This is where the integration between the EMR giant and Google Health will come into play. By combining both the technology solutions they will fill these gaps by pulling out any discrete data from disparate or legacy systems. As a result, the clinician will be well-informed to offer patient-centered care offering a holistic view of the patients’ health.

When the search capabilities are integrated and medically regulated this can provide a seamless experience for clinicians to pull out meaningful information that can support their decision-making process and ultimately enhance health outcome levels.

Intelligent summarization offered by Google Health mines data from different parts of patient records to form a concise summary regarding patients’ health conditions. When clinical information is readily available physicians can explore the best options to treat and monitor the patient’s conditions.

Longitudinal health data layer

To make the search and summary functionality work, Meditech EHR will make use of Google Health’s tools to create a longitudinal health data layer. This will bring data together from different sources and convert it into a standard FHIR format designed especially for clinician tools.

This collaboration will help Meditech users to reap the complete benefits of integration across all continuums of care. The EHR software vendor knows that the amount of data involved in healthcare can overwhelm providers and can cause a clinician burden. This is the reason that the design will offer only personalized views of important patient information which doctors want to look at.

Shared vision

Both, Meditech and Google Health share the same goal to support care teams in healthcare organizations and hospitals to offer the best care possible. The integrated solutions will advance interoperable healthcare data exchange to support the healthcare ecosystem. Data privacy and security are a major part of this healthcare partnership. Google Health’s clinical tools and the EHR software comply with best security practices and are HIPAA compliant, also patient data will not be used in advertising.
